The Calgary Stampeders have signed national linebacker Dan Basambombo and added him to the team’s practice roster. Here’s a closer look at his background and career.
Who is he?
Dan Basambombo is a 6’0″, 225-pound linebacker who played college football at Université Laval. Born on May 26, 1997, in Kinshasa, Congo, he has since made his mark in Canadian football
Drafted in the second round of the 2020 CFL draft by the Ottawa Redblacks, Basambombo played in 23 games over the 2021 and 2022 seasons. During his time with Ottawa, he made six special-teams tackles.
Early Years
While playing at Université Laval, Basambombo appeared in 14 games over three seasons. He racked up 42 tackles, including four tackles for loss, three sacks, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries. In 2018, he was named a Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ) all-star after a standout season with 31.5 tackles in eight games.
Originally from Kinshasa, Congo, Basambombo moved to Canada at age nine. He grew up in Ottawa, where he attended École Secondaire Catholique Franco-Cité. During his junior football career, he played for the Cumberland Panthers.
Basambombo is now set to contribute his talent and experience to the Stampeders’ practice roster.
