People of Calgary: Stampede Royalty

People of Calgary, Stampede princesses

Every year, the Calgary Stampede crowns two women to represent the rich heritage and spirit of this iconic event. For 2024, Brooke Fielding was named Calgary Stampede Princess, and Margaret Holloway from the Stoney Nakoda Nation became the First Nations Princess. Here’s a closer look at their stories.

Brooke Fielding: A Passion for Western Heritage

Brooke Fielding, the 2024 Calgary Stampede Princess, grew up in Water Valley, Alberta, where she began riding horses at just eight years old. With experience in both Western and English riding disciplines like jumping and dressage, she’s no stranger to the Stampede. Brooke has been involved with the Calgary Stampede Ranch Girls and the Calgary Stampede Showriders.

A recent graduate of the Haskayne School of Business, Brooke hopes to inspire others to follow their dreams while promoting the spirit of western heritage and community. Throughout her reign, she will attend countless events and help share the Stampede’s traditions with people from all walks of life.

Margaret Holloway: Representing Stoney Nakoda Nation

Margaret Holloway, the 2024 First Nations Princess, grew up in the Elbow River Camp and is deeply connected to her Stoney Nakoda roots. At 22, Margaret is passionate about sharing her culture and traditions, and she wants to be a voice for Indigenous youth.

With a love for creating regalia and beadwork, Margaret aims to use her role to advance her community and preserve her people’s way of life. She will represent the Calgary Stampede and Elbow River Camp throughout her reign, connecting audiences with the history and culture of the Treaty 7 First Nations.
