Flames Weekly: Comebacks, Controversy & One Solid Win

Flames Weekend

We’re back with another weekly recap of your Calgary Flames! All the details of the week condensed into a short couple minute read for you to absorb and enjoy.

Flaming Ice

Let’s start with Monday night shall we? The Flames took on their bogey team, the Colorado Avalanche, in what was expected to be yet another loss against the juggernaut that is the Avs team. They always seem to have our number and kick our butts. Well Monday felt no different with the Flames going down 2-0 before the 3rd period had even started. Makar with the first (of course, had to be our Calgary kid), and O’Connor with the second goal. Things were looking grim when out of the blue our 4th line decided it was time to play some hockey. In the span of just 38 seconds Lomberg, assisted by Weegar and Klapka, and Klapka, assisted by Lomberg and Rooney, put up a pair of massive goals that tied the game up and electrified the Flames team. Lighting the boys back up with energy and a new offensive prowess, the Flames looked eager for a third goal. Unfortunately it never came and we were left going into overtime, a fun energetic overtime too it was. In the end the Flames somehow ended up with 2 points from the night, with Vladar making 28 saves on 30 shots and shutting down the Avs in a shootout, one which saw Sharangovic as the only goal scorer.

Flames on Ice

No time to rest for the Flames, next came the Utah game Tuesday night. Utha Hockey Club, ugh. Another night and another game where the Flames go behind early, leaving more room for another comeback. 2-0 in the 2nd period when Andersson potted one to make it 2-1, but that was the closest the Flames would get to tying the game. Well, there was the goal called off for the puck not crossing the goal line, even though we all know it did… 2004 part 2? Let’s try not to get into it. Flames lose 3-1 with an empty net goal against in the end to seal things.

Finally last nights, Thursday nights, game. Not a ton to say, the boys looked hungry, they came out swinging after a bit of rest and a loss to Utah. Wolf looked sharp as he always does, putting up 26 saves on 27 shots. Coleman had a great night putting up 2 goals for himself, and Kadri opened the scoring just 16 seconds into the game to earn himself a point as well. 4-1 win for the Flames should give them a boost of confidence heading into the weekend clash against the Vegas Golden Knights.

And there we have it. Another weekly roundup of your Calgary Flames. Stay tuned for next week as we get closer and closer to seeing if we make it into the playoffs or wasted our 1st Round Draft Pick!
