Here we go Calgary the final weekend of March which means, depending on who you ask, Spring is officially here! The forecast wholeheartedly disagrees with this and calls for snow all weekend long unfortunately, but it does improve to start the week. Anyways, back to the focus, 5 more things for you to get up to this chilly weekend!
This week we’ve got
- Wine tasting
- Live music
- Horse racing
- Rock opera
- A spring market

Kane Brown: The High Road Tour
March 29th
Wine not your thing? Don’t worry, next up is a country concert. Kane Brown is coming to town! Kane Brown gave both American Idol and X Factor a shot, but when TV didn’t bite, he took matters into his own hands, posting country covers on social media. Spoiler alert: it worked. By 2015, he crowdfunded his first EP on Kickstarter, and just two years later, he made Billboard history. With hits like “One Mississippi” and “Heaven,” Kane became the first artist to score No. 1s across all five major Billboard country charts at the same time. His sound? A smooth blend of R&B swagger and classic country soul, all about love, life, and doing things his own way. Here Saturday night it’ll be Kane Brown and if you’re a fan of country then you won’t want to miss him!

Harness Racing at Century Downs
March 29th
Want something a little more fast paced? Get yourself over to Century Downs for the return of live harness racing! Feel the thunderous crash of heavy hooves against the dirt. Witness the tactical maneuvers, speed, the raw power that only live horse racing can provide. Whether you’ve been before or you’re new to the races, this is sure to be an exhilarating experience that will fill you up with energy and excitement and raring for more!

Double Feature: Phantom of the Paradise x Phantom of Winnipeg
March 29th
Feeling something more unique, something with a cult kind of vibe? Look no further than Studio Bell where they’ll be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the cult classic Phantom of the Paradise! The Brian De Palma rock-opera which expertly blended genres, stood out with an outstanding soundtrack, is celebrating its half century and Studio Bell wants YOU there to join in the fun and the double feature of Phantom of the Paradise and Phantom of Winnipeg. Fun fact, the movie holds a strong connection with Winnipeg. Upon the films release in 1974 the city fell in love with it, unlike most of the rest of the world where the film flopped commercially. This has led to events like Phantompalooza taking place in Winnipeg to celebrate the film, and even a documentary releasing that covers the strange connection between city and film.

The Spring Market
March 30th
Finally we have a Spring Market, the 3rd annual Spring Market hosted at the Deerfoot Inn and Casino. After their successful Holiday Market they are pleased to bring you the Spring Market. Here you’ll find over 90 vendors offering an unmatched variety, bringing you health and wellness, food, fashion, arts and crafts, and so much more to help you bring Spring into your home and your soul!

And there we have it, Calgary! A full lineup of events to warm your soul, even as the snow insists on sticking around a little longer. From sipping bold wines to stomping your boots at a country concert, feeling the rush of the racetrack, embracing cult-classic cinema, or finding something fresh at a bustling spring market, there’s truly something for everyone. Whether you’re braving the chill or just looking to shake off the winter blues, these five events offer the perfect excuse to get out, explore, and make the most of this final weekend of March. Pick one (or all five!) and let your weekend be anything but boring.
