Charlie Trafford Retires: From Cavalry Star to Full-Time Farmer

Trafford

I’m sad, scared, proud, and excited all at once. Soccer has been one of the greatest gifts of my life.

After 11 seasons, Calgary native and Cavalry player Charlie Trafford is hanging up the boots, calling it a career. From humble beginnings with Calgary Foothills to a rise which saw him play across Europe for teams in Finland, Poland, Scotland, and Wales, including time with famous Wrexham AFC appearing on Welcome to Wrexham, and three appearances for our own Canadian National Team. Trafford also historically help local side Calgary Cavalry lift the 2022/23 season Canadian Premier League Shield and the much coveted 2024 North Star Trophy. He also won major honours in Scotland with club Inverness CT winning the Scottish Challenger Cup in 2018.

Trafford has had more than football to focus on for the past couple of seasons. Him and his sister opened Trafford Farms in 2023 here in Calgary and have recently opened a second location in Didsbury! Trafford Farms focuses on herbs and mushrooms grown locally here in Alberta and are used by several restaurants in the province. Their focus on local produce as well as sustainability could see them have great success in the future. Full-time farming seems to be what the future holds for the now retired midfielder, swapping cleats for crops.

For everything he did on the pitch for the Cavalry we say thank you Charlie and best of luck in your future endeavors!
